What can I do?

As an individual

  • Write to your MP to express your concerns on poverty and support for Get Fair

  • Register your support on the Get Fair website for regular updates and e-actions that you can take. If you have your own website or blog use Get Fair to raise awareness of the issues, spread the word and forward emails and get others to register their support on-line
  • Join in with others locally - look out for events and activities that local groups might be doing to raise awareness on poverty.
  • Put poverty on the agenda of your local group or organisation, to raise awareness and encourage support for Get Fair. Start by making contact with other groups in your area

As an event organiser

  • Get a group together and ask others to get involved. A small event can be effective, spread by word of mouth or community newsletters and, for larger events, in the local media. A workplace, faith or community group meeting is a great way to start.
  • Choose an event that you will have time to prepare for and be clear what you want to get out of it. Invite a speaker to talk about Get Fair or from a local group other than your own that can talk about poverty from a different set of experiences.
  • Use the media to raise awareness of what you are doing. Ensure you have a good local angle, by involving local groups, your local MP or including local statistics and experiences.

For details of how this can be done, look at the organisers pack from the June 2009 lobby of MPs on the resources page.

As an organisation

  • Promote Get Fair in your newsletter and website. Give a talk whether that is at your local school, workplace, church, trade union or other meetings organised with local groups
  • Put poverty on the agenda of your local group or organisation, to raise awareness and encourage support for Get Fair. Start by making contact with other groups in your area.
